Two flower bookmarks resting on the page of a book. One has a green paperclip with a purple flower and the other has a white paperclip with a pink flower.Today I’m sharing how to make these cute DIY Flower Bookmarks. It’s a super quick and easy project that is great for kids and adults!

I’m a bit old fashioned in that I love to have my hands on a book when I read it. I have tried reading eBooks on a tablet but it just isn’t the same. I mean picking up a tablet just isn’t the same as picking up a book and flicking through to where you left off.

It’s because I like to read physical books I need to have a bookmark handy. Often I will use just a scrap of paper but now I’ve decided to up my game and make something a bit better.

One bookmark attached to the top of a book. The bookmark is white with a pink flower. I saw recently on line that some people were using paperclips as bookmarks. That seemed like a clever idea so I thought I’d use that idea to make a flower bookmark. I had some craft flowers that weren’t being used for anything so I decided that they would make great bookmarks.

This DIY project is so simple you can complete it in around 5 minutes. It probably takes longer to gather up the required materials than it does to make the bookmark. Plus if you have a few craft flowers lying around you can make more than one bookmark. Perhaps give them away as presents if you know some keen bookworms.

These would be great homemade gift ideas for young girls just getting into reading. I know I would have loved to have one of these bookmarks when I was in primary school!

Making an Easy Flower Bookmark

A pink craft flower, a white paperclip, and a pair of plyers resting on grey fabric.

Materials:

  • Paperclips (colourful plastic coated ones look the best)
  • Wired craft flowers (either paper or fabric)
  • Pliers (to trim off excess wire)

Method:

Choose the paperclip and craft flower that you want to use.

Place the flower against the top edge of the paperclip so that the bottom of the flower sits flush with the top of the paperclip. This will allow your flower to stick out of the top of the book.

Close up of a green bookmark with a purple flower on the page of a book.

Now wrap the wire stem around the paperclip 2 or 3 times.

Use the pliers to trim off any excess wire stem as close as possible to the paper clip.

Now your flower bookmark is ready to use, you can’t get any easier than that!

Two flower bookmarks are clipped to the top of the page of a book. One is green with a purple flower and the other is white with a pink flower.
